School of Health Sciences - Distinguished Alumnus AwardWho Gets the Distinguished Alumnus Award?The Distinguished Alumnus Award, which first was given in 1989, goes to an individual who has distinguished himself or herself in pharmacy, bionucleonics or health sciences. About the Distinguished Alumnus AwardThe award is made possible by an endowment fund established in 1988 in honor of John E. Christian, Hovde Distinguished Service Professor of Bionucleonics and Health Sciences at Purdue. Christian was the first head of the Department of Bionucleonics, forerunner of the School of Health Sciences, and was the first head of the health sciences school. He came to Purdue as a research fellow in 1940 and retired from the university in 1988. The Awards to date are as follows:
