School of Health Sciences - Gilman N. Cyr 1991 Distinguished Alumnus
Dr. Gilman N. Cyr received a B.S. in Pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1943, followed by an M.S. degree in 1947. He received his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University in 1948, with a major in pharmacy.
He practiced retail and hospital pharmacy during his early years. He was an Instructor in Pharmacy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy during 1945-46, and was promoted to Assistant Professor of Pharmacy in 1948, a position he held until 1952.
Employment at The Squibb Institute for Medical Research began as Research Supervisor, General Pharmacy, in 1952. This position was followed by Assistant Director, Pharmaceutical R&D, in 1970 until 1979. In 1979 he was promoted to Director, Research Planning and Coordination, a position he held until he retired in March, 1991.
Dr. Cyr and his wife Theresa have four sons, Timothy, Michael, Peter, and Paul, and two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth.
