School of Health Sciences - Student Highlight
Medical Technology Program at Purdue UniversitySince I had worked in the "real-world" for nine years before returning to college, I was not the "traditional" college student. Returning as a full-time student was both an interesting and difficult experience for me. I appreciated what I was learning in school much more than most students coming straight from high school because of the many sacrifices I had to make in order to begin my education again. I was no longer able to depend on my parents for financial support as that became my sole responsibility. My three years at Purdue taking classes and doing labs were simultaneously difficult and enjoyable. I had been out of high school for so long that many things were no longer fresh in my mind. There were very many extremely difficult classes which were required for me to achieve my goal - getting into a clinical program during my senior year. Nonetheless, since I was more than determined to create a better future for myself, I succeeded in doing just that. I was ecstatic to get into the clinical program that was my first choice. The clinical year has been very grueling but also rewarding. I have received an incredible amount of hands-on experience and information. I have learned more in the last 12 months that will enable me to help others in my chosen field than I did the entire three years taking classes at Purdue. It has been an amazing journey! Also, I am very excited to be approaching the end of my clinical year and am looking forward to getting a productive and lucrative full-time job as well as being able to get back to a normal life at home with my family. I also look forward to finding that prefect job so that I can put all of my wonderful education from Purdue University and Good Samaritan Hospital to excellent use in assisting others. Jennifer A.
