What is the Health Sciences Ambassador Program?

The HLS Ambassador Program is in its 9th year. Outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Health Sciences have been selected each year to serve as official representatives of the HLS student body at recruiting and alumni activities on and off campus.

What types of activities do the Health Sciences Ambassadors perform?

Host and speak to prospective students and their parents at:

  • Purdue Scholar's Day
  • Purdue's For Me
  • Fall Preview Days
  • Introducing Purdue
  • Explore Purdue
  • Destination Purdue

Host and speak to alumni at:

  • Alumni meetings
  • Special alumni events (e.g. Homecoming and Gala Week)

Do I Qualify for the Health Sciences Ambassador Program?

To qualify for a Health Sciences Ambassador interview, you must:

  • Be a full-time student, 12 credit hours or more
  • Be a semester classification 3 or higher (first semester sophomore)
  • Have at least two semesters remaining in school
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

How do I apply to be a Health Sciences Ambassador?

  • Complete and submit the written application by March 27, 2009. Applications are available upon request in the HLS Office of Student Services, Room 1163 CIVL. You will be notified if selected via email by April 27, 2009.

If chosen, how long will I serve as a Health Sciences Ambassador?

  • Ambassadors serve a one-year term starting in August.
  • After the end of each one-year term, the Health Sciences Ambassadors will be evaluated on participation and performance. If the Ambassador still meets the requirements, he/she may continue for another term.
  • If at anytime during a term an Ambassador should be placed on academic probation, fail a course, transfer out of the School of Health Sciences, behave unprofessionally, or fail to maintain, fully, a commitment to the organization, he/she will be asked to resign.

What's expected of me once I become a Health Sciences Ambassador?

  • Participate in the mandatory orientation Sunday, August 23, 2009, in CIVL 1252.
  • Attend monthly meetings with the program coordinator.
  • Participate in all HLS Ambassador activities.
